Industrial action across the Spanish rail network, starting tomorrow, is expected to disrupt the container moves in and out of Spain as the CGT union calls for a strike lasting until 12 October.
Renfe, the Spanish national rail operator, has not announced any contingency plans for the strike and, at the time of publication, had not responded to The Loadstar’s questions.
However, Danish carrier Maersk announced on Monday it was looking for alternative options, but warned customers that delays were likely.
It advised: “In order to mitigate the impact we recommend you to plan in advance and consider trucking transport instead. Please ensure you also request your alternative transport mode in advance so that we can confirm availability.”
Maersk’s regional spokesperson told The Loadstar: “Our hope is that the parties of this dispute will find a sustainable solution as soon as possible, allowing the whole logistics ecosystem to avoid impacting supply chain flows and trade in Spain.”
CGT has also been contacted but has made no comment so far.
