Globalisation is purportedly about free markets engaging in trade. But this is topped off with a layer of national protectionism, in the form of tariffs, which can be introduced for wide-ranging reasons including job-saving measures, or simply political revenge.

This article looks at some of the tariffs implemented by the US, and how they affect products such as Rocquefort cheese, paper clips and sneakers (trainers).
