Markings on a container – what do they mean?

It says it in the title. In this blog, explaining maritime terms to the layman, shortsea shipping line MacAndrews breaks down the meaning of the numbers printed on the back of every shipping container. With an annotated image it thoughtfully, and thoroughly, leads you through the box numbers, check digits, ISO codes, and all the other markings printed on every container.
