FedEx is to invest €200m in doubling its cargo handling capacity at Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport – but has also pledged to keep TNT’s hub in Liege and its hub in Cologne, “maintained as significant operations for the group moving forward”.
It also plans to open a TNT ground hub north of Paris, and three depots.
The initial investment will amount to €200m for the extension of its facility in Roissy, while the remaining €1.2bn represents the guaranteed total amount of rent over 30 years.
FedEx claims the distribution hub at CDG will be one of the world’s most advanced express logistics hubs, with technology that can boost package sorting capacity by more than 40%. Building starts next year and it will be operational by 2019, and between 200 and 400 jobs will be created.
