Consolidated revenue rose by 6% in the period, to $3.8 billion from $3.6 billion in the first three months of 2012. The increase resulted from 3% growth in volumes carried (2.7m teu in first-quarter 2013 compared with 2.6m teu in the prior-year period) as well as a 3% rise in freight rates.
