Here’s one scenario of the inevitable shake-up of the four east-west container alliances this year, as the current batch of M&A activity settles down. Original analysis from Chas Deller’s shipper consulting operation, 10Xoceansolutions, and Splash247 sees Cosco and APL joining Ocean 3 and turning it into Ocean 5, leaving a diminished KHYE alliance, while Hamburg Sud steps into the G6 to replace AAPL. All of which would leave the question of where a merged Hanjin-Hyundai South Korean super carrier would position itself.
