One of the world’s largest shippers, FMCG producer Unilever, has signed a four-year deal with Convoy, a Seattle-based start-up backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, which has developed an app that matches shippers with small trucking firms with available space. Inevitably it has had the “Uber for trucking” tag attached to it. Unilever contracts thousands of trucks every year, and supply chain executives said the deal with Convoy would give the shipper greater flexibility.
