And we’re off. The extra tariffs placed on Chinese goods by the US are now in effect. The tariff rises imposed on $200bn-worth of goods had had a grace period, of a June 1 deadline for goods arriving in the US. And on Saturday, China too began collecting higher tariffs on $60bn-worth of US goods. The US-China trade war shows no signs of dissipating any time soon. The row over Huawei is also continuing: China is investigating FedEx after four packages sent by Huawei were diverted to FedEx headquarters in Memphis, instead of being delivered to Huawei in Asia. FedEx said the packages were “misrouted accidentally”, while China claims that FedEx’s actions “severely harmed clients’ legitimate rights and interests and violated China’s delivery industry regulations”.
