After Japanese carriers NYK, MOL and K Line last week formally established their new joint-venture container line Ocean Network Express (ONE), the management of the new company was unveiled this morning.
While the holding company with ultimate governance of ONE will remain in Tokyo, its operational global headquarters will be based in Singapore, with existing NYK Line chief executive Jeremy Nixon (pictured above) named as the chief executive of ONE.
He will be accompanied in Singapore by a director from each Japanese firm – Noriaki Yamaga from K Line, Hiroki Tsujii from MOL and NYK’s Yasuki Iwai.
Singapore will also be home the regional headquarters for ONE’s south-east Asia and Australasia business, while further region headquarters will be set in Hong Kong for China and east Asia; London for Europe; Virginia for North America and Sao Paulo for Latin America.
Mr Nixon has been chief executive of NYK’s liner division since 2012, and moved to Singapore two years before that to head its South Asia operation.
Prior to that he had a two-year stint as head of NYK Europe, based in London. His first senior appointment in shipping came in 2002 when he was named head of Europe trade management and global sales for P&O Nedlloyd.
In 2005, he became head of global key client management for Maersk Line following its takeover of P&O Nedlloyd, and then moved to NYK in 2008.
The ONE joint venture will rank as the sixth largest container line when it is formally established in April 2018, operating 1.44m teu capacity.
The group said it will begin its sales activity and launch an around-the-world promotional tour in October, with events being scheduled in to take place in many major ports.
It will start accepting shipment bookings next February, with its official launch two months later.
