A fascinating video insight here, courtesy of our friends at gCaptain, on the progress to raise the height of the iconic Bayonne Bridge in New York by 19 metres to accommodate the air draught of neo-panamax boxships.
The $1.3bn project cost is a painful hit for Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ), but when completed late next year it will give the PANYNJ terminals upriver the ability to compete for the influx of bigger containerships on the US east coast which has followed the Panama Canal expansion.
