Apparently it’s on – and this year. Possibly in response to the delays and troubles in Panama, Nicaragua’s president and Chinese tycoon Wang Jing have announced that they are to start building the $40bn canal across Central America in December. It makes in-fighting over Panama’s relatively paltry $5.2bn cost seem something of a minor scuffle.
