The world’s biggest shipping line, MSC, wants to build a new transhipment “super port” in south Vietnam.
According to local media, MSC-owned Terminal Investment Ltd (TIL) has signed an agreement with Ho Chi Minh City to build a $6bn port in Can Gio, a district on the city’s outskirts.
The proposed facility would have a 7.2km wharf, annual capacity of 15m teu and be capable of handling 24,000 teu containerships.

July 05, 2022 at 4:52 amThe main purpose of the new project is for international transshipment containers/vessels, and solely for MSC; therefore, road access and bridges are not a big issue as vessels calls directly, and containers transshiped among vessels via CY. Major of cargo (domestics import/export) for existing ports in the same area (on the other side of same river – Cai Mep) is using barges to connect ICDs upstream, less than 15% of volume via road.
The new location for this port is very convenience for deep water port and especially for transshipment without major affection to infrastruture, and competition to other existing ports as different target sector – a niche market – transshipment.

July 19, 2022 at 3:20 amLong An, Cu Chi, Dist. 7 IDZ can save cost to use truck i/o barge via ICD since they use Ring Road#3; bridges is not issue for vessel calls but there is issue for customers who use service :). It is very nice project for new t/s port which large space in Can Gio.
