CMA CGM-owned Containerships has appointed Rob Waterman (pictured above) as its new chief executive.
Mr Waterman is based at the company’s Hamburg headquarters and has replaced Claude Lebel who has retired after a long career with CMA CGM Group.
Since March 2013, Mr Waterman has been chief executive of CMA CGM UK, based in Liverpool, while prior to joining CMA CGM, he was managing director of Safmarine UK & Ireland after holding various senior positions with Maersk around the world.
He said: “We will continue to develop and expand our services. That expansion starts this week with the launch of our new service connecting mainland Europe and Ireland.
“Our biggest asset is our outstanding team of 1,200 colleagues across Europe and Morocco, who bring an in-depth focus, knowledge and understanding of the European multimodal market.”
The Containerships business swelled considerably last year after it was acquired by CMA CGM and subsequently merged with the French group’s other European shortsea brand, MacAndrews.
