Whatever your position on ex-im banks providing “corporate welfare”, the fact is they are vital conduits of trade for thousands of small-to-medium-sized enterprises that rely on them to provide loans to overseas customers. The fact that the US congress has failed to reauthorise the US Ex-Im Bank’s mandate is nothing less than a kick in the teeth for many American exporters.
