Djibouti is hoping for a sea-air link following the revival of Air Djibouti, which last week took to the skies again with a Fokker 27 freighter leased from Astral Aviation. The airline is a 70/30 joint venture between Djibouti Ports and Free Zone Authority and the international airport, and has started with a service to Somaliland’s Hargeisa. The country wants to become a regional hub for air transport and the airline will move goods on from the port. The next services to launch will be to Mogadishu, Juba and Nairobi with five more aircraft delivering this year – including passenger planes.
