It’s not been a good week for Thai aviation, after ICAO downgraded the country’s civil aviation department of Category 2, bringing it to the same level as nations including Angola, Eritrea, Haiti and Sierra Leone, among others. ICAO’s decision came after it gave Thailand 90 days to fix problems, which it said included airline certification. The decision has already impacted Thailand-registered carriers, which are now banned from some additional charter services in China, Japan and South Korea. But the affect could be far worse if Europe or the US decide to restrict Thai airlines too. Meanwhile the Bangkok Post calls for more clarity.
