Those who thought things were back to normal on the US west coast may have to think again after the local ILWU at the port Oakland unilaterally refused to dispatch workers to the port’s terminal on Sunday, in a dispute over a new workforce ordering system that came in after the agreement signed between management and the union was ratified last month. Meanwhile, the organisation that represents the US’s powerful food produce exporters, the Agriculture Transportation Coalition, is set to meet in nearby San Francisco this month and is expected to offer some choice words on the ILWU’s recent behaviour.
