Few in the unitised freight business are likely to have heard of Scorpio, a shipowner and manager that before this week focused on tankers and bulkers.
However, that has all changed after rumours began circulating that it had entered the container shipping sector with an order for three 19,200teu vessels with South Korean yard DSME.
If, as is likely, it is true, they would be the largest ships afloat when they are delivered in 2016. The shipowner is understood to have signed 15-year charter deals for the trio with MSC.
