Clarkson Research has an interesting article on how shipyards have surprised the market in past years. When Lehman Brothers – “the first trailer in the trailer park that the tornado hit” – collapsed, shipping analysts were sure that the orderbook would never be delivered. “The problems seemed insurmountable.” And yet 2009 to 2011 turned out to be the biggest shipbuilding boom ever, resulting in a 40% bigger fleet today.
