Wal-Mart, one of the world’s biggest shippers, has long been admired for its tight inventory and logistics management. But, according to various leaks at the company, it is currently seeing sales growth slow amid too many empty shelves. One local manager was brave enough to tell Bloomberg: “There are gaps where merchandise is missing. We are not talking about a couple of empty shelves. This is throughout the store in every store. Some places look like they’re going out of business.” Does this mean Wal-Mart is no longer the supply chain darling it once was? And how can it improve?
