It tends to be Tory MPs who become synonymous with “the unacceptable face of capitalism”, but in a turnaround, this time it’s a Tory MP accusing Ann Gloag, of Stagecoach and Manston Airport fame. As expected, she is looking to build 1,000 houses on Manston’s land – despite a promise when she bought the airport last year that she would keep it open for two years. But there are still plans afoot to save it via a compulsory purchase order, and a continuing £7m offer from RiverOak. The Guardian story also mentions some “opaque” financial footwork that seems to have left Manston liable for a £23m loan from a previous owner.
