Now here’s an expensive accident. An AN-12 freighter taking off from Yakutsk lost part of its valuable cargo when a door opened as it climbed. The Siberian Times reports that the surrounding area – as far as 26km from the airport – was showered with gold bars, diamonds and bars of platinum, cargo belonging to the Chukota Mining and Geological Company.
