Businessweek is warning that the railroads in Chicago are already concerned about this winter, following last week’s severe snowfall in New York. They are opening 24-hour command centres, installing heaters and looking at rerouting and contingency options. Chicago is the epicentre of the rail system – one quarter of all US freight passes through it and the six biggest railroads interconnect there.
