A brilliant headline. This is the story of the NS Savannah, a nuclear-powered cargo-passenger vessel that was launched 50 years ago today in a blaze of publicity and sailed from the US to Europe. It was supposed to usher in a new era of nuclear-fuelled ships, which clearly never came to pass, mainly because of the divisive nature of nuclear power itself. An intriguing story accompanied by some great photos.
