It might not be rocket science, when you think about it, but Drewry has charted the downward trend in carrier reliability and noted that it appears to be linked to poor rates. While it notes there is no evidence of such a link at a global level, there does appear to be a parallel between poor reliability and volatile rates on individual trade lanes. “It does suggest that carriers are somehow punishing Asia-Europe shippers for the huge swings in rates,” notes Drewry.
