Oakland Port has found itself in a “perfect storm”, which has led to a serious backlog of cargo. Shippers are reporting containers taking up to 21 days to leave the port and be delivered, three times the normal wait. The congestion is at a terminal complex which was taken over last month by SSA Terminals. The port says the situation has been exacerbated by the US Independence Day holiday and three one-day labour stoppages. One of the biggest losers are independent trucking companies which are having to wait seven hours to pick up containers.
