New York is crowing. Combined port and airport figures show growth last year of 18% over the previous year, while larger west coast rival Los Angeles saw just a 12% rise in two-way trade. A combination of the widening of the Panama Canal, plus a manufacturing shift out of China into India and Bangladesh means the east coast city is optimistic that one day it will wear the crown.
