Air freight is vital for Pakistani mango exports, the fruit’s short shelf-life demands speedy transport from producer to consumers. However, according to The News, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) says ever-increasing air freight rates are frustrating the country’s mango exporters – more than 50% of whom use air freight. In the past year, the export value of mangoes per tonne has dropped as much as $50. Now the FPCCI is calling on the government to come up with a mechanism to streamline international cargo rates to facilitate fresh produce exports.
