There has been quite a lot of flag-waving at London’s Heathrow airport this morning as British Airways hoisted the bunting for the arrival of its first A380. Following on the back of the arrival of its first 787 last week, the world’s not-so-favourite-airline is in celebratory mood, having taken delivery of its first new long-haul planes in 17 years. And as for cargo? Well, the both the 787s and A380s have air conditioning capabilities in the hold, and, while the A380 is not known for being a freight-friendly aircraft, IAG Cargo has “purchased additional ULD positions in the hold”. British Airways added that it “will also receive an A380 with an improved maximum take off weight, 12 tonnes higher than a standard A380”.
