It’s been said in the industry often enough. But according to this Seattle Times article, Boeing’s Dreamliner problems are really related to its changed outsourcing strategy. It outsourced risk and responsibility, claims the article, giving it little transparency over its suppliers  – even though Boeing would ultimately pay in the event of a problem with aircraft. As it is no doubt discovering now. And – incidentally – according to one source quoted in the article, the batteries aren’t the real problem –  more worrying are the power panels.
