Ukrainian postal operator Ukrposhta has put out a tender for a year-long air freight deal worth $3m, with a November 1 deadline. Currently four airlines, Ukraine International, Lufthansa, KLM and Turkish Airlines, provide services for the postal company. It appears that Ukrposhta has advantages – and disadvantages. Earlier this year, it launched an exclusive express delivery channel for goods from China’s JD.com. But it is also being forced to contend with a bizarre rule, to be implemented in January, that individuals may only receive three duty-free parcels per month, a requirement which the postal operator has warned will effectively end imports. “Which out of five parcels is the fourth?” it asked. “It will not be the responsibility of Ukrposhta.”
