Drewry’s latest insight reveals that the shipping lines’ decision to move capacity out of the east-west trade lanes, and dump it into the north-south markets, has come at a price. All-in spot rates have declined significantly – with Shanghai to Santos seeing a fall of 51% in July, compared with January. Drewry suggests that a restructuring is inevitable.
