The strikes in Chile may be over – but they are hotting up in South Africa. State-owned port and rail freight operator Transnet is preparing for a one-day strike next week by port and rail workers, in support of the walkout by 20,000 truckers. South Africa has been beset by a wave of violent labour demonstrations, which have seen almost 50 people killed.

Meanwhile, in Chennai, India, logistics workers have gone on strike at the Hyundai factory, disrupting production.
