The emergence of an alternative shipping route between Europe and Asia via the Arctic Ocean as a result of shrinking ice has been hailed as a possible game-changer in terms of global supply chains, even going so far as to warrant a few national TV and radio new items. However, this thoughtful analysis pours cold water on hope the route will seriously develop as an international artery; although its development for Russian domestic traffic is underway and set to continue.
