Fascinating account of the impact that Chinese shipping line Cosco has had on Greece’s major port of Piraeus, since it invested $600m in a new container terminal in 2010. In its heyday Piraeus was the major entrepot of the eastern Med, but then suffered crippling strikes by dockworkers as the country’s economic crisis took hold and plans for the Chinese investment emerged. Now, however, it is gradually reasserting its position.
