There are few better media outlets that cover EU policymaking than Euractive, and this report into the discrepancy between eastern and western member states and how they approach the issue of posted workers – a category that truck drivers operating across the continent fall under – is another example of its in-depth reporting. While France, Germany and Austria have proposed new minimum wage regulations that would force east European trucking firms to pay their drivers the same wage levels as western truckers when they are operating in those jurisdictions (a measure that is largely seen as protectionist), there is mounting evidence that western truckers rarely possess the documentation to comply with east European regulations when they go eastwards.
