Flying bank cheques about was always going to be a diminishing business in the electronic age. And it certainly turned out to be true for AirNet Systems, a Columbus airline, which has just been acquired by Kalitta Charters.

Kalitta said it would keep on about 35 employees, noting that the deal was really about the people and the maintenance base at Rickenbacker. AirNet has been in receivership since last year, but has continued to operate, shipping radioactive pharma, auto parts, aircraft parts and organs. It is looking to hire pilots and has a fleet of Beech twin turboprops and Barons and Bombardier Learjets.
