As anyone still waiting for their cross-border e-commerce order has come to understand, there is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes in organising shipments from one country to another than meets the eye. International trade facilitation has been one of the main reasons d’etre of the World Trade Organisation, but the rate at which technology is changing the way people do business means the WTO is in danger of being left behind.
