Bosses at Liverpool port operator Peel Ports popped open the champagne after Maersk and MSC announced they would switch two transatlantic services from Felixstowe due to congestion at the east coast port. But the past week has shown just how quickly a port can become a victim of its own success. Landside congestion at Liverpool’s container gates has been mounting, with tempers exacerbated by the hot weather, according to The Liverpool Echo. “Furious hauliers have told the Echo they’re having to wait for many hours as the port struggles to cope with the volume of containers. Port bosses have even had to put out “deckchairs” for drivers stuck at the docks.”
