The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has appointed Pawel Jarza as its policy and compliance adviser, focusing on customs issues.
Mr Jarza brings 12 years’ experience in the industry, joining BIFA from Landmark Global, where he was customs clearance manager.
He began his career in 2005 as an imports supervisor with Yamata Transport and two years later moved to Arcadia Group as duty management specialist, before joining Landmark in November 2015.
He has gained experience in traditional forwarding as well as developing a specialism in the e-commerce sector.
Mr Jarza will work alongside BIFA’s executive director, Robert Windsor, and its policy and compliance advisor, Mike Jones.
The role will involve working with the trade, HMRC and other bodies to ensure customs processes and policies work best for both the trade and regulators.
This will take particular prominence as new routines and solutions emerge during the negotiations and preparations for the UK to leave the European Union.
BIFA director general Robert Keen said Mr Jarza’s experience in the customs environment would help the association’s policy and compliance department fulfil its role of representing BIFA members.
