Some 5,000 lorry miles a year are set to be removed from Belgian roads with the launch of a ‘beer train’ pilot scheme. Rail freight operator has commenced operations of a three-times-a-week brewery-to-supplier rail service, transporting “thousands of litres” of Jupiler beer from the Anheuser-Busch InBev brewery near Liege to a wholesaler just outside Brussels. According to RailFreight.com, the service has been set up in partnership with the Province of East Flanders in an effort to ease congestion on Belgium’s roads and create “sustainable” rail freight opportunities.
