The wonders that a fully functioning port can do for a new nation never cease to amaze. Somaliland remains unrecognised as a state independent of Somalia, despite de facto autonomy that has lasted for nigh on 25 years. However, a recent deal, which will see DP World build a new container terminal at Berbera, will not only provide a vital boost of confidence to the country’s business sector, but could also prove to be a new gateway for its giant landlocked neighbour, Ethiopia.
