Anyone involved in moving goods to and from Iran needs to tread carefully. US sanctions extend further than many businesses might think – and a host of shipping lines recently pulled services as a result. Nevertheless, Turkish Airlines Cargo is this week set to start flights to Tehran. While the Turkish minister for development noted that “Turkey abides only by the UN Security Council ratifications”, any forwarder thinking of importing into Iran needs to be wary – if you have a US office, you could be in trouble. Meanwhile, Afghanistan, sick of the constant bickering between the US and Pakistan that leads to closure of the overland route out of the war-torn country, is hoping to use Iran’s port for its exports instead.
