Good article, originally by the WSJ, on why the latest, and unexpectedly timed, delivery of two 747-8Fs to AirBridgeCargo is bad news for Boeing. The aircraft were in fact “white-tails” – left over from a cancelled order. Worse still, Boeing Capital Corp, the manufacturer’s finance arm – which many would prefer not to exist – is leasing the aircraft to ABC. According to this article, ABC leases three aircraft from Boeing, as does SilkWay, which struggled with ExIm finance and had to turn to Boeing instead. Volga-Dnepr Group’s commitment this year for 22 aircraft could help Boeing out of a hole, especially if it buys rather than leases the aircraft, but ABC can only take three a year, it said.
